Strategic Vision of the MMF

  • To help managers in different regions exchange information and knowledge such that the professionalism and expertise of the community of music managers is enhanced and reinforced;
  • To engage in solidarity action financed in various ways to enable certain members, or future members, to have access to modern music management techniques and skills under the most favourable conditions and thus to foster such members collaboration with all the members of the IMMF;
  • To ensure the safeguarding, respect and protection of the moral and professional interests of its members and the national community of music managers;
  • To watch over and contribute to the respecting of the economic and legal interests of music managers and their clients in national legislation;
  • To work for the advancement of, and recognition of, the importance of copyright and the value of intellectual property not only in economic terms but also as the protector of culture and of those who create it;
  • To foster the awareness of the importance of the rights of artists as the creators of copyright, and therefore of culture, of the essential role which managers play in protecting the rights and role of their clients in this regard, and by extension the essential role of especially featured artists as the generators of musical culture throughout the New Zealand and the world.

What Does the MMF Do?

Education

One of the MMFs main roles is in the education of both new and established managers. We offer a number of areas for managers to increase and develop their knowledge, as well as provide a framework for essential networking and socialising with peers.

QUARTERLY SEMINARS
Quarterly Seminars are a national seminar series normally
featuring one to two guest speakers from specific areas of
the music industry.

BACK TO BASICS SEMINARS
The Back To Basics seminars are similar to our quarterly
seminars but aimed predominantly at new entrants to the
music industry. These seminars cover the basic topics that
a new manager or band may need to know as they start
out, eg. Accountancy, legal issues, funding, touring.

ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING SESSIONS
The MMFs One-On-One mentoring sessions offer members
the exclusive opportunity to meet individually with an
industry expert to work on a particular area in which they
feel their band needs help. Whether it be touring, contracts,
accounting, general management, publishing, publicity,
licensing, sponsorship, radio plugging or production the
MMF will find the appropriate industry expert and
arrange a mentoring session.

MMF ANNUAL SUMMIT
The MMF Summit is a one-day seminar series that is toured
nationally. The seminar series features up to six speakers as
well as an exclusive opportunity to speak one-on-one with
speakers of their choice.

ONLINE SESSIONS
The Online Sessions are held bi-monthly via the Q&A
Forum in the members section of the MMF website.
The sessions allow members to ask questions and discuss
issues with industry experts from around the world

ing, touring, which are available to MMF members.

A great night to get together with other
members and celebrate a hard years work.

Representation & Advocacy

The MMF in New Zealand works towards the development of a fairer playing field with organizations & industry bodies such as APRA, IMNZ, RIANZ, NZMIC, NZ Trade & Enterprise, the Ministry of Arts Culture & Heritage, and the Ministry of Economic Development. The MMF also works with regional agencies such as city councils on music issues.

At an international level, the IMMF is also engaged with simplifying and reforming music business agreements such as recording and publishing contracts, watching out for new clauses which may not be in artist's and therefore manager's interests. The IMMF is also concerned to reform various industry norms such as issues like assignment of copyright and packaging deductions in recording contracts as well as a host of other old-fashioned and blatantly unfair conditions.
