Muriwai Waitangi Day Festival 2012

Written by  Wairere Iti

The first ever Muriwai Waitangi Day Festival showcases musicians whose strong Maori music identity has translated them offshore into ‘world music artists’.

The lineup includes Pacific Curls, Maisey Rika(Bossy Hill) and Moana & the Tribe.(Sol De Sully) Joining them are Anika Moa, Ardijah, Nat Rose (just back from Rhythm & Vines) and Majic a 15 year old emerging artist from the Kaipara and more.

Set within native bush at Houghtons Bush Camp, over 20 Muriwai Beach visual artists will create, exhibit and sell new works on the Festival theme. A guided hikoi to a sacred site on the venue, a series of lively speakers and celebrities in ‘the Treaty Hot Seat’ onstage – even food will reflect the Treaty theme.

Tickets are strictly limited. All proceeds will be donated towards the Muriwai Lifeguard Services Amenities Trust and Reweti Marae.

The Muriwai Waitangi Day Festival has received support from Auckland Council, Creative New Zealand and Te Puni Kokiri.
