WHEN AND WHERE
Sounds Aotearoa takes place on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 March 2012, New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand.
HISTORY
Sounds Aotearoa has stacked up an impressive array of successes from previous showcasing artists at its two-day event. Artists have gone on to perform at some of the biggest festivals in the world including 2011 attendees Electric Wire Hustle (Halyley Dingwall) and Bella Kalolo (Ayesha Kee) at Glastonbury and The Big Chill in the UK. Maisey Rika (Bossy Hill) has been able to travel to Hawaii and mainland U.S. and Moana and The Tribe (Sol de Sully), Batucada Sound Machine (Scott Grafton), Pacific Curls and 1814 have had opportunities across Asia-Pacific including Panang, Korea and across Australia.
Sounds Aotearoa is a New Zealand Music Expo, initiated by director Emere Wano (Tihi) in association with the Taranaki Arts Festival Trust, designed to enrich the NZ music industry and expose NZ music to the global market. With the support of Creative New Zealand and The British Council, Sounds Aotearoa is able to bring some of the world's top festival bookers and agents to the conference to not only expose them to some of NZ's top talent but also so these industry professionals can share their knowledge of the global music-market with all NZ music industry delegates at the day-time conferences. It is a two-day event which precedes the popular Womad NZ festival in New Plymouth, Taranaki. Sounds Aotearoa is a trade expo and conference by day, and by night a showcase of some of the most exciting world-class NZ grown talent.
