It is just days until NZ Music Month for 2018 gets underway.  With around 1,000 shows and events happening each May, there is sure to be something for everyone’s taste to get out and see around Aotearoa.

The theme for this year is music discovery – Discover New.  Whether it is new tracks by a legendary act, or an artist who has just put their first songs online, there is no shortage of new music being produced across the nation.

Alongside all the gigs and tours, there are dozens of events coming up this May – from communities creating their own day to showcase and celebrate their homegrown talents, to seminars about the current music business at Going Local sessions and the annual NZ Music Month Summit.  There is a photography exhibition in Auckland, a music book launch in Dunedin, an exhibition in Wellington celebrating their local sounds and the technology that helped created it, some legendary NZ music on the big screen, and the Children’s Music Awards – because you are never too young to enjoy tunes from the same place as you.

And there are some very special campaigns coming too – the launch of a new award and a very special anniversary; a local record being created in perhaps record time; new songs you’ll be able to hear on the radio, online and in the air; 20 bands playing in only two hours in a one-night only event; and very sweet project with Whittakers.

We look forward to sharing news about all this – and so much more – over the coming weeks.

In the meantime, update your playlists with a bunch of fresh New Zealand tracks; like & follow local artists on sales, streaming and social platforms; check out your local radio stations to hear what’s new from Aotearoa on their airwaves, and find your nearest record store so you can be ready to grab the tangible goodness.

Don’t forget to check out our Facebook, Instagram and twitter where we will be posting all that is fresh and new.
