Pōneke Pop Princess Danica Bryant unveils moody and intimate new single ‘Narcissist’ featuring Julia Belle

Danica Bryant has shared one last amuse-bouche ahead of her debut album FEAST, with new single and video ‘Narcissist’, featuring fellow Wellingtonian artist Julia Belle - out 25th June!

True to the nature of the Pōneke rising star’s tongue-in-cheek songwriting and catchy pop hooks, ‘Narcissist’ is an intimate and sweet new anthem with a cutting edge. Danica’s effortless vocal talent is once again on display, paired with vulnerable lyrics that shine a light on what it takes to be a star.

Narcissist; is about how much ego and self-focus being a musician requires,” explains Danica. “It takes a degree of selfishness to prioritize following your dreams… but we also tend to be the most vulnerable people; which can allow others to vilify and hurt us because we need to be sensitive to pursue this life.”

Today’s release joins the ranks of Danica’s hit singles ‘Acid’ (#2 Hot Aotearoa Singles Chart), ‘Morals’ (TAHI FM, RollingStone AU/NZ, Tearaway) and ‘Buzz’ (The Most FM, 13th Floor, Juice TV) - giving fans one final taste ahead of her debut album FEAST - out August 1!

Danica’s music has built a loyal grassroots following across the motu, taking her to such heights as opening for Robbie Williams and Elton John, and a successful crowd-funding campaign for FEAST. She’s got the best of both worlds: a polished pop sound, and an unabashedly, authentic approach to songwriting - covering topics of queer sexuality, feminism, and neurodiversity.

“‘Narcissist’ also relates to being on the autism spectrum. It's a song about processing that I always answer other peoples needs over my own. I hope listeners can relate to that mournful acceptance and understand selfishness isn’t always such a terrible thing.”

Bringing to life the bittersweet edge of ‘Narcissist’, todays release is accompanied by yet another innovative, DIY music video from Danica and collaborator Tyler Blythe - taking form as a Found Footage style clip.

What’s more, fans can join Danica Bryant and Julia Belle (both supported by their full bands) in celebrating the single release and counting down to FEAST at Eyegum (free) Wednesdays on July 2, at San Fran, Wellington!

A force to be reckoned with in Aotearoa pop music, now is the time to savour the taste of Danica Bryant’s new single ‘Narcissist’, ahead of the FEAST this August!
