The Two Dollar Trio Make Their Debut with The Interesting Sounds Of Two Dollar Trio

“I've got a goldmine in my pocket, and I've got an eviction notice in my shoe.”

Introducing The Interesting Sounds Of Two Dollar Trio, the debut album from Adam Hattaway, Dillon Feeney & Nick Armstrong out today on all streaming platforms and limited edition compact disc.

Already familiar with each other's work through their respective projects, Adam Hattaway and The Haunters (Adam Hattaway), Sin City, The Cavemen (Nick Armstrong) D.Feeney and Smokestack Slim (Dillon Feeney), the three came together with a shared admiration for one another's songwriting. Bound by a deep love of country and folk songs, and with roots on both sides of the Tasman, the trio bring together country guitars, heartbreaking harmonies and a sound that feels pulled from another era.  There's a warmth to the sound that recalls the 1970s, but it belongs just as naturally in the streets, pubs and back rooms of Melbourne in 2026. Despite their distinct songwriting styles, the three come together to make an album that feels effortlessly lived-in, as though these songs have been written side by side for years.

Mostly recorded at SoundPark in Melbourne/Naarm to 16 track tape as well as home studios and The Bone Shack in Christchurch/ Ōtautahi the album features musicians, Mitch Thomas, Flora Knight,
Shaun Malloch and Elmore Jones.

The record takes a few turns along the way. Fiddle and slide guitar lead the way on “We’re Going Home”, before “Broke in Style” settles into acoustic guitars and bittersweet storytelling. “Dinner in the Sky” brings a Celtic flavour, banjo and a chorus made for singing along, while “Bad Company” rounds things out with rock ’n’ roll energy and boogie-woogie keys. It’s a record that can be melancholy one minute and ready to kick up its heels the next.

Celebrating the release, Two Dollar Trio will play an intimate live show at Melbourne's beloved Merri Creek Tavern. With plans to tour the back corners and country halls of New Zealand you can expect to see more of the trio soon.
