Electric Coastline is coming to a beach near you this summer
Broods hit the road with two electrifying acts, Kings and Theia, for summer’s hottest new tour
Prepare yourself for a summer tour like no other. Three of New Zealand’s most exciting acts – Broods (Ashley Page), Kings and Theia (Nicole Thomas) - back-to-back, and coming to a holiday town near you.
Presented by ZM, Electric Coastline will be headlined by the chart-topping, award-winning duo Broods, with support from breakthrough sensation Kings and emerging glitter-pop darling Theia.
Making its debut in December and January, the touring mini festival stops off in four popular hot spots along New Zealand’s magical coastline. And with electrifying live sets from three of the country’s hottest acts right now, Electric Coastline promises to be the party you just cannot miss this summer.
It kicks off at Cooks Reserve, Riwaka, near Nelson on December 26, before heading north to the Mangawhai Tavern on January 3, and making its way down to Coroglen Tavern near Whitianga on January 4 and ending at ASB Bay Park Arena in Mount Maunganui on January 5.
Broods will return from their base in LA for the four-date tour, which rounds off a triumphant year for siblings Georgia and Caleb Nott, who hail from Nelson. They’ve enjoyed phenomenal success with their sophomore album CONSCIOUS, wowed with a killer performance on the Late Late Show With James Corden and sold out tours across New Zealand, Australia and the US. They also received an impressive five nominations in the upcoming 2016 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, including ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Best Group’ and ‘Single of the Year’ with their smash hit ‘Free’ produced by Joel Little. Meanwhile Broods’ latest single ‘Heartlines’, co-written with Lorde, is still sitting firmly in the charts.
Broods will be joined by one of New Zealand’s biggest success stories in 2016, the mighty Kings.
After making a mark in 2015 with his Dan Aux collab ‘Sippin’ Yak’, Kings went on to take the nation by storm with his infectious Gold tune 'Don't Worry Bout It', which this year spent 14 weeks at #1 in the local charts. Auckland-based Kings also gets two nods at this year’s VNZMA, with nominations for ‘Single of the Year’ and ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year’. Kings’ self-titled debut EP is due out on November 25, includes the new single, ‘What We Supposed To Do’.
Completing the all-star line-up is one of this country’s newest emerging talents, Theia. The Christchurch singer-songwriter made her debut in 2015 with the electro-pop-meets-sultry-R’n’B track ‘Silver Second’, which caught the attention of US tastemaker music blogs Hillydilly and Pigeons & Planes. Theia is now riding high on the success of her summer anthem ‘Roam’, which clocked more than 1 million plays on Spotify in just six weeks and saw her enter the Global Viral Chart, the US Viral Chart, the Australian Viral Chart and top the NZ Viral Chart.

Former Titanium member, and double-platinum selling artist Andrew Papas will release his debut solo single 'Burn It Down' on 21/10/16 via all digital platforms.
During his time with Titanium, Andrew has completed two sold out nationwide tours, opened for international artists Maria Carey, Jason Derulo and Hot Chelle Rae, achieved two gold-selling albums and performed at New Yorks Madison Square Garden. Since announcing his departure from the band in December 2015, Andrew is ready to do it all again as a solo artist.
Written by Andrew, and produced by award-winning producer, Vince Harder (Vodafone Pacific music awards “Best Producer 2016), the edgy pop song showcases Andrew’s powerhouse vocals, and features a sexy shift and a more mature sound.
Speaking on the song, Papas says: “Burn It Down reflects a turning point in my life, and the moment when I realized not everyone has your best interests at heart. I’m so excited to finally release music that represents me, and I hope people love it as much as I do.”
HOPETOUN BROWN 'LOOK SO GOOD'

Just 12 months after the success of their first album “Burning Fuse”, Tim Stewart and Nick Atkinson have come up with something special for their second Hopetoun Brown album. They've pulled in dynamite guests and they've splashed more time in the studio than ever before.
You might nod to the fat swing of Lawrence Arabia drummer Al Deverick or you can sigh hearing the soaring backing vocals of Marlon Williams. This album is peppered with star turns from some of Hopetouns closest collaborators. Tami Neilson and Tim Stewart co-wrote the first single Hate I Don't Love You and the two hottest brass players in the country, Finn Scholes and Kingsley Melhuish, have added new depths to the already stonking arrangements. Delaney Davidson's drummer Joe McCallum brings his sizzling high-hats and bouncing cowbells while Aldous Harding joins the party for a few shouts on one of the tracks expertly engineered by Lyttelton recording prodigy Ben Edwards. You'll hear Atkinson on the piano and Scholes on the Vibes and the organ. Stewart's tonsils are now highly polished after hundreds of gigs up and down the nation and the glue that holds this act together, a bass clarinet, of all instruments, beguiles with it's unique tone. Funk to the hip hop influences, bathe in the harmony of trumpets, have your ears pinned back by huge trombones and tubas and bounce all night as three different drummers vie for your shake time on this brand new record Look So Good.

Wellington singer-songwriter and internationally acclaimed musician Thomas Oliver (Cushla Aston) has won the 2016 APRA Silver Scroll Award with his captivating love song ‘If I Move To Mars’.
Thomas Oliver accepted the prestigious award at a ceremony held at Vector Arena in Auckland tonight. A sweet and simple, yet compelling, love song, Thomas Oliver says, “On the surface, it's a light-hearted song about taking someone to Mars and lying in the dirt, drinking Cognac and listening to records. But at its core, it's a love song and I meant every word."
“It’s a wonderful thing to recognise talented and hardworking songwriters like Thomas” says Anthony Healey, Head of NZ Operations for APRA AMCOS. “The acclaim of your peers is special, it’s the highest praise and in this case a well-deserved accolade.”

HISTORY MADE AS TE REO METAL BAND ALIEN WEAPONRY CLEAN UP AT SMOKEFREE ROCKQUEST AND PACIFICA BEATS
Northland thrash metal band Alien Weaponry (Hammerhead de Jong) are still recovering from the shock of winning both the 2016 Smokefree Rockquest and Smokefree Pacifica Beats.
Northland thrash metal band Alien Weaponry (Hammerhead de Jong) are still recovering from the shock of winning both the 2016 Smokefree Rockquest and Smokefree Pacifica Beats.
Comprising 14-year-old Lewis de Jong (guitar/vocals), brother Henry, 16 (drums), and Ethan Trembath, 14 (bass) - Alien Weaponry have made NZ music history as the first band to win both competitions, the youngest band to win either final, and the only metal band to win Pacifica Beats.
“We are speechless,” the band posted on its Facebook page shortly after the Smokefree Rockquest winners were announced at the conclusion of the National Final on Saturday 24 September.
“We were already surprised to win Smoke free Pacifica Beats [the previous night],” says Henry de Jong. “There are such great musicians in both competitions, and we don’t really fit the mould. We play thrash metal, we’re political and we sing in te reo Maori.”
However, it was these very differences that impressed the judges and earned the band the top prizes.
“They believed in their identity as a metal band, their use of Te Reo was impressive, there’s really nothing else like this in the world at the moment,” said one of the judges, Jeff Newton from NZ On Air.
The band is humbled by the recognition. “We feel very privileged to get these awards,” says guitarist and lead singer Lewis de Jong. “The NZ On Air funding and gear from the Rockshop will really help us to achieve our goals, and we plan to make the most of the opportunity.”
These plans include recording with Shihad drummer and producer Tom Larkin.
“One of the things I am really excited to see is how they develop in the next three to five years,” says Larkin “They already have such strong identity and combined with their level of skill we are going to see some really interesting musical changes as they mature.”
