After a successful first season, Georgia Lines' INTROS is back for 2023 and continues to break ground for female and non-binary artists in the music industry.
Episode one features a kōrero with folk artist Jazmine Mary. The songwriter and producer sat down with Georgia to chat about navigating the NZ music industry, being an independent artist and concludes with a hauntingly beautiful guitar-led rendition of her track 'Move Me'.
Episode two features a kōrero with Tāmaki Makaurau pop artist Gracie Moller - chatting about growing up with a musical family, finding support and prioritising your wellbeing, and concludes with a stunning acoustic rendition of her track 'mess for you'.
Intros is a series hosted by the talented musician, Georgia Lines, who is on a mission to showcase and promote her favourite female and non-binary artists in the music industry. In an industry that has been historically dominated by men, Intros is breaking the mold by providing a platform for female and non-binary artists to share their unique perspectives and talent.
This show features a relaxed sit-down kōrero with these artists, where Georgia explores their creative journey, the story behind their music, and the inspiration that led to the creation of their songs, alongside having important conversations around navigating the industry and tools they have learnt along the way. By focusing on female and non-binary artists, Intros is shining a light on voices that are often underrepresented in the mainstream music industry.
Each episode of Intros is dedicated to one specific song from the artist, providing an opportunity for viewers to get an in-depth understanding of the track's lyrics, melody, and production. Georgia delves into the details of the creative process, discussing everything from songwriting techniques and instrumentation to the emotions and experiences that influenced the song's composition.
After the interview, the artist takes to the stage to perform a live rendition of their song, allowing the audience to experience their talent firsthand. The live performance segment of the show is a unique feature that sets Intros apart from other music interview shows, giving viewers the chance to appreciate the artists' music in a raw and intimate setting.
Intros is an exciting initiative that highlights the work of talented female and non-binary artists who may not always get the recognition they deserve. By creating a platform for these artists, Georgia Lines is breaking down barriers and amplifying the voices of a diverse range of musicians. The show provides a window into the creative process and life of these artists, making it a must-watch for anyone who wants to learn more about the music industry and the amazing talent that exists within it.

Revulva release spaghetti western music video for hit single ‘This Town’
Popular Pōneke nine-piece band Revulva have today released a music video for their new dark and punchy single ‘This Town’.
Popular Pōneke nine-piece band Revulva have today released a music video for their new dark and punchy single ‘This Town’.
‘This Town’ has been striking many hit chords since its release in February - placing #12 in the Official Hot 20 NZ Singles Chart, #3 RadioScope Alt Chart, Most Added and #1 on the SRN Charts. A tale of avoiding your ex in public and the lack of romantic anonymity in a small town, it was Revulva’s intention to not make the music video too literal to the original concept and lyrics of the song. Instead, the spaghetti western theme of the video leans into the futility of dating within a small scene, while also capturing the humour of how intense yet silly these relationships can be.
“It’s about a cowboy and cowgirl in love and spending the day at Red Rocks exploring the world,” says Revulva’s Phoebe Johnson. “But then disaster strikes and they break up in a heated fight, dealing with the breakup in their own ways before stumbling upon a bounty made on the others head. Cowboy and cowgirl recruit armies of many and then fight to the death.” The making of the video was definitely not all smooth sailing, as Phoebe explains. “In the lead up to the video shoot we had 3 directors withdraw due to health, work and other reasons. We luckily had Ben Ashby (also starring in the video) step in just a week before the shoot - which was shot in one day at Wellington’s Red Rocks, with weather that was rain-threatening one minute, to sun-burning the next. We had the assistance of the lovely Wellington community step in for the ending fight scene and choreographed it on site. Against all odds, we have made a video we’re extremely proud of.”
Alongside director by Ben Ashby, was assistant director Pearl Kennedy, DOP Ben Stewart, and styling by iconic Wellington hat brand, Hills Hats. Also starring in the video are all members of the Revulva supergroup - Phoebe Johnson (NOVA, Ebony Lamb), Lily Rose Shaw (Dawn Diver, The Gallery), Hector McLachlan (Raiden Freeman), Lennox Grootjans (Hummucide, Len Blake), Toby Leman (Hummucide, The Gallery), Olivia Campion (Yumi Zouma, Mystery Waitress), Zane Hawkins (Dr. Reknaw, Zoe Moon), Hayden Richardson (Dr. Reknaw), and Kaito Walley (TOI, Bret Mckenzie). ‘This Town’ was recorded/mixed by Lee Prebble at Surgery Studios, then mastered by Downbeat Mastering. The group celebrated its release with their first Aotearoa nationwide ‘This Town Ain't Big Enough Tour’.
Since 2020, the band have been regulars on the Wellington gig scene and, more recently, had their debut EP GIRL’S GOTTA EAT nominated for best EP at the 2022 Student Radio Network Awards. Revulva’s sound is a mix of soul, funk, pop and jazz, but with ‘This Town’ they surprised some fans with its spoken word for the lead vocal, dark harmony, and an exciting percussion solo section at the end - known to the band as the “break up” section, as opposed to the typical “break down” section.
With much more to come from Revulva, so make sure you’re following their socials!

Mountain Boy returns with his next offering ‘Let It Lie’, another track full of soul, story and spirit. Written, produced and mixed by himself, it’s not often you only see one name on the credit list, as he continues to showcase his talent as a creator.
Explaining the origins of the track, the artist states “‘Let It Lie’ is one of those songs that was lyrically pieced together from 3 or 4 different themes, with strong feelings of gratitude and letting go. The thread that ties them all together, I think, is the movement from the ‘self’ to the ‘other’, or from ‘I’ to ‘us’.”
The Waikato based artist has worked closely with Paris Baillie to create the stunning visual that is the ‘Let It Lie’ lyric video, as well as the artwork for the track.
Having recently taken time to meticulously curate his next chapter, the artist is ready to share what he’s been working on, with more to come in 2023.
‘Let It Lie’ is out Friday, 17th March on all streaming platforms.

She’s played alongside some of the biggest names in country music, graced the charts and her debut single has had over a million streams - now Abby Christo has released her latest single ‘Note To Self’.
Sure to hook fans, old and new, ‘Note To Self’ is a great country-pop song full of optimistic, feel-good Nashville vibes and all about letting go of the things out of your control. “I suffer from bad anxiety, so I wanted to write a song to listen to when I’m overthinking. A song that says ‘some things are meant to be, others aren’t’.” Based between Sydney, Australia and New Zealand (Auckland and Taranaki), ‘Note To Self’ was made with the support of NZ On Air and written and recorded between the two countries - both in-studio and remotely. Abby says that the country sounds reflect her passion for country music, and that the honest, raw lyrics represent who she is as a person. “I’m vulnerable, optimistic, curious, and my music gives me a platform to be able to express it all.”
Also being released today is a music video filmed on a ‘random farm’ a few hours out of Sydney and co-directed by Abby and Blacklist Productions. “For me, sunsets, cowboy boots and open backroads bring me a lot of joy, so I had to have them all in the video! Visually, it’s how I feel when I hear the lyrics - letting go, road tripping and being at ease.” Filmed on the ‘hottest day ever’, the artist did her own hair, makeup and wardrobe changes outside the back of a car. “There were cows and birds around which felt really wholesome and grounding. The scenery made me love the song even more because it brought it to life.”
Currently based in Sydney, Abby is busy writing her second EP, and has festival performances lined up, including CMC Rocks in Queensland with Morgan Wallen and Zac Brown Band. She also has an exciting trip planned to one of the great homes of country - Nashville - for songwriting and recording.
A self-described ‘Heartbroken Optimist’, Abby Christo first stepped into the spotlight in 2015, when she appeared on X- Factor NZ as part of duo Mae Valley. They broke charts with their debut self-titled EP and played alongside global country megastars like Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini. In 2017, Abby spent 2 years finding her voice as a solo artist, penning her debut single 'Kiss Me Into Monday', which has had over 1.4 million streams. It was during the pandemic Abby wrote her debut solo EP SLOW DOWN GIRL - an EP that contains her most authentic music yet. She went on to sell out her first headline Sydney show in July 2022, celebrating the release of her EP. With new music on the horizon, many listeners will find solace and hope in Abby Christo’s country songs.
Indie-pop artist Samantha Jane takes new direction for sophomore single ‘Narcissus’
Up and coming Aotearoa singer-songwriter Samantha Jane (formerly Samantha Heart) has today released her darkly sparkling sophomore single ‘Narcissus’.
Up and coming Aotearoa singer-songwriter Samantha Jane (formerly Samantha Heart) has today released her darkly sparkling sophomore single ‘Narcissus’.
Listen to ‘Narcissus’ here
The indie-pop artist has taken a turn away from her whimsical debut ‘Alaska’ (Nov, 2020), showcasing more Neko Case vibes with her vocals and strong electric guitar strums. She says ‘Narcissus’ shows her growth as an artist and the direction she’s wanting to move in.
“It’s a twist on the myth of Narcissus, the man who fell in love with his own reflection. Most of us have come across someone who might be a narcissist. I think of it as a dark, topsy-turvy fever dream - with a touch of hope thrown in to show people there’s a light at the tunnel and no-one can take away who you are, your value or your worth,” says Samantha Jane, adding that while she drew on some personal experiences, the song is not about one particular individual but rather a “tapestry of experiences from the world around me.”
‘Narcissus’ was recorded and mixed at Auckland’s Depot Soun Recording Studios by Noah Page. “Noah is amazing and talented,” says Samantha Jane, “I came in with the lyrics and a melody and he really helped bring the whole vision and soundscape of the song to life. I love writing what I would describe as ‘juicy’ lyrics, for example ’if I reached under those ribs, would a heart even be there?’ it’s so full-on but I think it encapsulates a feeling so well. Same with ’I wanna burn down the bed that I brought you into’ it’s vulnerable, honest and quite devastating! I love playing with language and symbolism and bringing that together through sound.”
The single was skilfully mastered by Richard Lee, and is now in the world for an ever growing fanbase of this exciting new artist.
Formerly Samantha Heart, Samantha Jane has been scribbling lyrics and humming up melodies throughout her life - but was too shy to share them - now there’s no holding back. Tune in now and make sure you’re following Samantha Jane!
