All This Time by Hangar 18

A lot of us at one time or another have experienced conflict in some shape or form with our partners and loved ones. The new single “All This Time” from Hangar 18 places an interesting twist onto this subject matter.

All This Time is the feature lead track on the latest

NZOA (NZ On Air) NewTracks.

NewTracks is a monthly compilation of new songs from NZ artists that NZ On Air distributes to radio stations and other broadcast and online media throughout Aotearoa.

NZOA picks the best tracks they believe have the highest potential at radio and media exposure in NZ.

About Hangar 18 new single:

A lot of us at one time or another have experienced conflict in some shape or form with our partners and loved ones. The new single “All This Time” from Hangar 18 places an interesting twist onto this subject matter.

All This Time is the second single taken from the upcoming new Hangar 18 album “Terraforming California”. Songwriter and band leader Paul Marshall explains, “There are many emotions and layers involved in this song which listeners can connect with on multiple levels. The song title places an emphasis on time being a factor that triggers the initial conflict, which is an interesting observation, as did time even play a part? I like to let the listener decide and make up their own minds for themselves”.

The album was recorded at Red Engine Studios in Brisbane Australia and produced by Grammy nominated, Aria winning, UK music producer Steve James who has worked with artists such as George Harrison, The Sex Pistols, The Jam, Shirley Bassey as well as closer to home artists such as Cold Chisel, The Angels, The Screaming Jets, Mental as Anything and Weta amongst many others.

Hangar 18 are Red Dela Pena on vocals, LC Reklamo on guitar, Malcolm Foster on bass and Paul Marshall on drums.

Paul is the original founding member of Hangar 18 and has had a long music career, working on all sides of the industry. Malcolm is best known for his time performing and recording with “Simple Minds” and “The Pretenders”. So Paul and Malcolm are ‘the veterans’ in the band, working for many years in the music industry, while Red & LC are the new blood.

Paul says “my idea was to form a modern version of Garbage, comprising of a couple of established music industry veterans with some new blood mixed in at the helm, similar to what Butch Vig and the guys did with Shelly Manson from Garbage”.

All This Time by Hangar 18 is out now and available globally on all platforms.

Debut Single From Oni Kidman Tells us to Screw Society….For all the Right Reasons!

At one time or another, most of us have been affected by social pressures.  To do things outside our moral comfort zone, influenced by peers or even those we have never met, just to be accepted by a group. It can leave you with a sour taste. It can lead you to think ‘SCREW SOCIETY!’

At one time or another, most of us have been affected by social pressures.  To do things outside our moral comfort zone, influenced by peers or even those we have never met, just to be accepted by a group. It can leave you with a sour taste. It can lead you to think ‘SCREW SOCIETY!’

However, a new song and video from up and coming teenage singer-songwriter Oni Kidman, set for full release on April 7, is telling us to screw society - for all the right reasons.

You don’t need to wear makeup to be pretty, your teeth don’t have to be straight or paper white, and you can cut your hair whatever way you want. The key message is 'believe in yourself, love yourself – that’s what equals the perfect life'.

‘Screw Society,’ Oni Kidman’s debut single, is an energetic, highly infectous, country pop song, written with wisdom beyond the years of its 19 year old author.

“You can be tall or short, or in between, you’re beautiful to me
If you’re heavy, skinny I don’t care, as long as you are who you want to be”

‘Screw Society’ which goes on pre-order on March 31, makes a statement about the unrealistic pressures and ideals that people feel they need to try to live up to in the modern world.

I want every single person to be able to relate to this song and feel loved and confident in who they are,” says Oni. “Society tries to shove you in a stereotyped box, but screw that! It’s OK to be 100% authentically you!

Oni comes from a family steeped in New Zealand music history. Her Dad is Rikki Morris and Uncle Ian was a member of Kiwi legends Th' Dudes.

However  Oni, who admits to making up random melodies and singing till her throat was sore from the age of 4, is writing original music in a different era to her iconic family members.

Her generation has grown up through a time of intense social media scrutiny, bombarded with endless streams of content about how to look, feel and fit in.  The irony is blatantly obvious when we hear Oni's huge sigh just before the first chorus.

“Just like the seasons change, so do all of the trends, so why don’t we start a new one,” says Oni, mirroring the bridge of her song.

Inspired by a new wave of fearless country music songwriters and storytellers over the past decade, the likes of Luke Combs and Kacey Musgraves, Oni is also releasing an E.P. with 2 other equally catchy original songs, ‘Waited Too Long’ and ‘Living Without You,’ the latter of which was recently announced as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition.

'Screw Society’ was produced and mixed by Rikki Morris at the Lab Studios and Skew Whiff Studios in Auckland. The song (and EP) are the direct result of NZ on Air 'New Music Development' funding.

This is just the first of many songs from Oni Kidman that will stick in your head and bring a smile to your face.  One to definitely watch.

TOM LARK SIGNS TO WINEGUM RECORDS + ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM SINGLE ‘RADIO BLASTER’ OUT NOW

Ōtautahi-based label Winegum Records is delighted to announce the signing of indie-folk savant Tom Lark and release of brand new single Radio Blaster, breaking a seven year long radio silence that has seen him incubating his own brand of humming, cognitive production and songwriting.

Ōtautahi-based label Winegum Records is delighted to announce the signing of indie-folk savant Tom Lark and release of brand new single Radio Blaster, breaking a seven year long radio silence that has seen him incubating his own brand of humming, cognitive production and songwriting. Also borne of this hiatus is a debut full-length album titled Brave Star, a fruitful collection of work reminiscent of the refined aesthetics of Andy Shauf or Kurt Vile.

The first single from Lark’s debut is named Radio Blaster. The track sketches around rhythmic horn lines, brushy guitar work and subtle electronica with an ever-loving groove tying it all together. Lyrically, Lark reinforces affirmation through the power of tuneful reflection on the sincerities of life.

Brave Star (recorded at Okie Dokie Studio on Auckland’s Karangahape Road) is due for release on June 9th, and is available now for pre-order on cassette and LP from Bandcamp.

To accompany Radio Blaster’s release, Tom Lark makes a live appearance at Tāmaki Makaurau’s irreverent Wine Cellar on April 15th, featuring Belladonna on support.

Winegum Records is an Ōtautahi-based record label and music management outfit headed by Chris Close, an earnest music-lover and drummer aficionado. Already existing on the label’s roster is the emotive Mousey and up-and-comer Mini Miller alongside recent tours from Pickle Darling, Pretty Stooked and Sam Bambery.

Radio Blaster is out now via Winegum Records. Brave Star is due for release on June 9th, and is available for cassette and vinyl pre-orders via BandCamp.
