UK metal stalwarts Skindred are coming to NZ for the very first time - ONE SHOW ONLY - you are gonna want to be there!!!
Widely acknowledged as one of the most enthralling live bands on the planet, Skindred, produce the toughest and most infectious metal riffs colliding with the biggest, phattest hip hop and reggae grooves, cutting edge electronics and a razor-sharp pop sensibility.
Skindred in the last few months have achieved some massive milestones, having recently appeared live on, Later... with Jools Holland, toured with US band KISS and now, Skindred are set to perform their own headline show at Wembley Arena with support from P.O.D.
Skindred then head to Australia to play all 3 Knotfest festival shows in front of 30,000 music fans a day. Then if all that wasn’t enough they are then gracing our shores in New Zealand to deliver a one of a kind club show. This will be the only time you will get to see this band live up close.
Skindred most recent album “Smile” went straight to number 2 on the official UK album charts upon its release, with the lead single “Gimme That Boom” amassing over 9 million streams on Spotify alone.
As well as recently topping the UK album charts, the band went to number 1 on the new alternative album charts in the US. Showing that their truly unique sound is rapidly expanding globally.
Benji Webbe and his loyal henchmen – bassist Dan Pugsley, guitarist Mikey Demus and drummer Arya Goggins have created the ultimate spark-spraying state-of-the-art soundclash.
Combining all manner of seemingly disparate musical elements into an irresistibly exhilarating explosion of energy and cross-pollinated cultural fervour has rightly earned them a reputation as a band capable of uniting people from all corners of the globe and making every last one of them tear up the dance floor with a giant grin plastered across their faces.
Benji Webbe frontman of Skindred has promised to bring his most famous invention of all to NZ “the Newport Helicopter”. If you don't know what that is, you will certainly find out on the night.
“There’s nothing better than being on stage with these guys,” says Arya. “Skindred is my favourite band and I’m so lucky to be part of this thing we’ve created. We’ve been all over the world but there are always new places to visit and new crowds to play for. Aotearoa, we can’t wait!”

ZED DELIVER ETHEREAL NEW TRACK ‘INTO THE OCEAN’
Following the bands first single in 20 years, ‘Future You’, ZED are back for 2024 with their new ethereal track ‘Into The Ocean’.
Following the bands first single in 20 years, ‘Future You’, ZED are back for 2024 with their new ethereal track ‘Into The Ocean’.
The second single from their forthcoming album, the track and video were inspired by a recurring dream lead singer Nathan King had. “I’m underwater, holding my breath, and eventually my lungs are bursting, I just have to breathe. So I draw breath and realise (in my dream) I can breathe underwater!”
Produced by Nic Manders, the track dives into a narrative of escapism, and finding peace in a space of worry. Accompanying the new single is the music video created by Lukas Kelly, showcasing animations of the band underwater, that explores the narrative even further.
Written in reflection, Nathan explains, “we’ve probably all had times of high stress, or when everything feels like it’s going wrong, when we wish we could have somewhere to hide away, where the worries of the world can’t touch you.”
Catch ZED’s rescheduled show for the final leg of the ‘Future You Aotearoa Tour’ this March 1st at Leigh Sawmill. Tickets are on sale now from moshtix.co.nz.

MOUNTAIN BOY DELIVERS DEBUT ALBUM ‘THE DAYS’
Today Mountain Boy delivers his debut album ‘The Days’, a 9-track reflection on the ebbs and flows of life and the necessity of gratitude.
Today Mountain Boy delivers his debut album ‘The Days’, a 9-track reflection on the ebbs and flows of life and the necessity of gratitude.
Featuring already released tracks ‘Let It Lie’, ‘Lucky’, ‘Noom’, ‘Dais’ and ‘Keel’, the album includes four brand new tracks ‘Millions’, ‘Very Like You’, ‘Good Night Babe’ and ‘These Are The Days’.
The musical nom de plume of Aaron Clarke, Mountain Boy is a project that's garnered praise from all corners, and his debut record is undergirded by his journey as a songwriter and producer. “Compared to my previous bodies of work, I leant into my tastes more and embraced the quirks, rather than shying away from them,” Clarke explains.
Lead track for the album ‘Millions’ unfolds as an honest narrative, inspired by thoughts of a late night drive. Free from doubles and delays the artist usually favours, the track offers a pleasant point of difference on the project, that elevates the record from folk, to folk rock.
To celebrate the release, he'll be hitting the road across the North Island to perform the album in full with his band. Starting in Raglan at The Yard on 15 February and finishing in Auckland at Big Fan on 22 February. Tickets are on sale now through undertheradar.co.nz.
Reflecting on the project, the artist explains “The result is a record that will have you gazing off into the distance and leave you feeling less alone and hopefully, more grateful.” ‘The Days’ is out now on all streaming platforms.

Listen to Trust Issues Here
Born in South Africa and creating out of Aotearoa, New Zealand, ADV hits the scene with a clear sense of identity and purpose. The established sound and visual aspects of ‘Trust Issues’ ring loud, and with eight music videos to support the launch, ADV connects the dots between deeply moving songwriting, ethereal production, and the importance of sharing more queer stories and experiences.
Released on 2 February 2024, the eclectic songs of ‘Trust Issues’ fuse elements of Soul, RnB, Pop and Funk, across a rich tapestry of design flowing with equal parts uncertainty and fun. The likes of ‘Just Tryna Be’ lift the mood with a strong groove and falsetto front-line, while ‘Shimmer’ adds an infectious hook and a powerful unity between dance and a gospel-choir warmth.
Elsewhere singles like ‘Sweater Song’ dig into relationship turmoil with fearless vulnerability, and the leading single ‘Do It Over’ strips things back to the bare essentials of piano, voice and story - before evolving into an uplifting anthem of celebration and optimism.
Far from purely a solo endeavour, collaboration was key in bringing ‘Trust Issues’ to life, with an extensive list of additional musicians, performers and creatives helping craft and edit the visual journey. The full visual album experience will release on 14th March 2024, alongside a zine called ‘The Trust Issue’, designed by Lulu Qiu, featuring work from a collection of photographers, as well as lyrics, credits, a poetic letter from ADV, and a foreword by renowned poet and playwright Nathan Joe.

West Coast jewellery business Made of Gold is making a real song and dance about the launch of its new brand and website - quite literally - and has enlisted the services of local musician Katie Thompson, who has penned a musical homage to her heartland.
‘Made Of Gold’ is a heartfelt tribute that captures the talented alt country artist’s love and nostalgia for the region and its landscapes, while also celebrating the resilience and pioneering spirit that has shaped the community over many decades.
Made of Gold jewellers has also been inspired by the people, stories and landscapes of the West Coast, so it was a fitting collaboration and an honour to have her song to launch the business, say company directors Shaun & Susan Drylie and Maria & Brent Robinson.
"We've known Katie for a long time and have witnessed her transformation into an incredible woman and singer/songwriter,” says Shaun Drylie. “Her song really captures the essence of the Coast, and that’s exactly what we’ve aimed to do with our new range of jewellery.”
Beyond the musical collaboration, Made of Gold is also working with Thompson and three other distinguished Coasters - para athlete Holly Robinson MNZM, rugby player Rosie Kelly and artist Holly Schroder - on a new mentoring programme called ‘Luminaries’, which is aimed at nurturing local talent.
Together, they aim to impart valuable wisdom and offer guidance to young Coasters and create a supportive environment for personal and educational growth.
"Made of Gold is all about precious gold jewellery that’s mined, refined and designed on the West Coast. But we also passionately support the development of raw talent among our tamariki. Just like our gold, our people are also a precious resource and our mentorship programme aims to help them strike gold in their own lives. We’re so thankful to these luminaries for getting involved."

MOZIE delivers sunshine groove with joy-filled new single + video
Emerging Te Whanganui-a-Tara-based Samoan singer, songwriter and performer MOZIE, has today released her exciting new RnB-pop single ‘Sonshine’.
Emerging Te Whanganui-a-Tara-based Samoan singer, songwriter and performer MOZIE, has today released her exciting new RnB-pop single ‘Sonshine’.
With an addictive upbeat groove, catchy hopeful lyrics and stunning vocals, ‘Sonshine’ is a song that effortlessly fills any space with warmth. Following her debut single ‘Not Done Loving’ (RNZ, Mai FM, SRN, NZOA NewTracks) and made with the support of NZ On Air Pasifika Single funding, the talented 24-year-old MOZIE (Moana Leota) joined forces with NZ pianist and composer Leonardo Coghini to co-write ‘Sonshine’.
“I was stoked to finally work on a song with one of my besties,” says MOZIE, “and hope that whoever listens to it, or watches the video, lets it resonate with them in their own way.
“Essentially, it’s about knowing that when you lose something or someone, the sun will rise again. For me, when we were writing it, the song’s meaning took a slight detour - I was in the early stages of pregnancy. Each time Leo and I would come back to it, I would be slightly further along and, as I was singing/writing the lyrics, I found that the ‘sun rising again’ was my soon-to-be son - my ‘Sonshine’!”
Also released today is a new music video filled with joy, humour and human connection. Filmed at Wellington’s Breaker Bay, the video sees MOZIE make her directorial debut alongside cinematographer and editor Havea Latu of Vain Creative, and NZ artist Brett Taefu and 7-year-old actor Roman Hamlin - who both deliver glowing performances!
“I’m so happy with it!” delights MOZIE. “The concept was all about the joy children bring to us. Whether it’s through our own children, nieces, nephews, friends' children, or just a child we pass by. The making of the video was so fun. Brett, the actor who plays the father figure, is also my real-life partner - and I went to school with Roman’s mum. It was so cool that they were willing to be part of this creative journey. Roman is an absolute superstar and his mum is his biggest cheerleader. She came along with him and would hide behind the rocks to secretly watch so he wouldn’t get nervous. I also have a great behind-the-scenes video of us all dancing to help Roman to dance on his own.”
MOZIE (Moana Leota) is a 24-year-old Wairarapa-raised, Te Whanganui-a-Tara-based Samoan artist who has a passion for storytelling. Music has always been an integral part of her life, coming from a family of singers and being actively involved in music and musical events from a young age. Her first professional work was at the age of 11, when she became the voice of the new Interislander commercial followed by the Tip Top Real New Zealand Summer commercial.
These jobs paired with her passion for the arts have opened many doors for her within the performing arts industry. After receiving her Bachelor of Creativity in 2020, she has been providing backing vocals for some of Aoteroa’s finest artists, as well as performing at commercial and private events. In 2022, after releasing her debut single ‘Not Done Loving’, she toured Aotearoa and all over America with award-winning composer, musician, comedian and actor Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords, The Muppets) on his NZ/US tour of ‘Songs Without Jokes’. This took her on many adventures and has given her fresh inspiration for her future work as an artist. With much more to come from this rising star, now is the time to experience the joy of MOZIE with this new single ‘Sonshine’!

Ōtautahi based folk artist Fraser Ross unveils reflective new single ‘Cards’, ahead of forthcoming album THUNDERHEAD out in 2024

Listen to ‘Cards’ HERE
Sparkling moments of guitar ear candy are woven in and around a steady rhythm guitar, creating a charming relaxed rock vibe with country songwriting sensibilities. At first listen ‘Cards’ appears easy-going, but there’s an underlying lyrical melancholy as Fraser documents a summer of heartbreak in the ‘game’ of love. “‘Cards’ is about dealing with the loss of someone I could have gone ‘all in’ with," reflects Fraser, “and how I’ll hopefully be better at playing future hands.”
‘Cards’ was recorded at Massey School of Music, with further tracking and mixing at The Surgery in Wellington by Dr. Lee Prebble, before being mastered at Munki Studios by Mike Gibson.
“I wrote two-thirds of the song in a van driving between Murchison and Golden Bay, enroute to a Summer holiday,” says Fraser. “And a week later, in Golden Bay, I had the last bit.
Lyrically, the song documents how I found someone new that January, but I was still too heartbroken to ‘play another hand’ when it happened.”
Fraser Ross is a Christchurch-based folk musician who has traveled the world playing and supporting bands including Phoenix Foundation, Nathan Haines, and Nadia Reid. His EPs, AND BIRDS DO SING (2009) and TO PLACES (2012) established him as a serious talent and a brilliant, loud-shirted presence within the New Zealand underground. Numerous shows, time in Scotland, and two Albums - MONGRELS (2015) and LIFE IS MAGIC, WHERE IS MY RABBIT? (2018) - later, he has built a dedicated following in both the UK and New Zealand. Dubbed a 'Kiwi Billy Connolly' for his tongue-in-cheek stage presence, he'll mix a light-hearted quip with a lonesome tune no problem. Fraser has played at numerous arts festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, LitCraw (Verb) Wellington, the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival, Wellington City Summer Sounds, and the Christchurch Nostalgia Festival.
With an album in the pipeline for release early this year, there’s guaranteed to be more excellent music to come from this local artist. Keep an eye out!
