Troy Kingi releases the first single “Paparazzo”, from his forthcoming album, “Year Of The Ratbags And Their Musty Theme Songs” . Co written with Delaney Davidson. Paparazzo talks of a crazed fan/ journalist who thinks they know a person so well that they start to believe they’re best friends - when in fact it’s just infatuation and a crazy world that they’ve built up in their own mind. The video evokes nostalgia with a wink and smile.

Paparazzo talks of a crazed fan/ journalist who thinks they know a person so well that they start to believe they’re best friends - when in fact it’s just infatuation and a crazy world that they’ve built up in their own mind. The video evokes nostalgia with a wink and smile.

Troy King’s sixth album, “Year Of The Ratbags And Their Musty Theme Songs”, is an 80’s Synth Pop instalment, in his 1O 1O 1O Series, (10 albums in 10 years in 10 genres)

“Year of the Ratbags And Their Musty Theme Songs”, finds Troy Jumping in the Delorian and taking us back to 84, the year of his birth.

Inspired by television theme songs and the superstars of the period such as Prince & Talking Heads, even the radio friendly sound of bands such as Tears for Fears, The Human League and Duran Duran ….. Troy’s main goal with ‘Ratbags’ was to hit a nostalgic nerve for those belonging to the era and for those who are true aficionados of 80s pop culture.

An album drenched in synths and bad hair - Each engineering technique, amplifier, instrument used to create it was sourced solely from the period, leaving no stone unturned in the quest for authenticity in one of history’s most colourful musical eras.

There is a hidden underlying theme that intertwines each song, connecting them all through one common thread - Troy has chosen to withhold this information leaving the albums meaning up to the ear of the beholder, although he did say, if you look close enough the clues are in plain sight.

Produced by Troy Kingi, long-time collaborator TeMatera Smith, and this time Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers Super Furry Animals, Catatonia, Lost Prophets, Bullet For My Valentine and Spice Girl Melanie C), to get the full 80’s vibe dialled up to 100%.

“ Year of the Ratbags And Their Musty Theme Songs”,- Out October 7th - Cassette/ LP through Border and available on all digital platforms.

Viral South Auckland Artist Nola releases first commercial single, ‘Mean It’.

After going viral with his feature appearance on Nelz’s breakout single ‘Trying’, which gained over 5.5M combined plays across YouTube and Spotify, Set 4 Life (S4L) and 24K Legacy Music are proud to present Nola’s debut commercial single ‘Mean It’, produced by Sprout and Pana Timoteo.

Getting his name from where he was raised, Nola Crescent in Otara, South Auckland, Nola is one of New Zealand's rising stars in the underground Hip-Hop and Rap scene. Having made a start in music while recording with friends and closest collaborators, such as 20th Boys, Bad1, YM, Jaxx and Nelz, in a more traditional grimey rap sound, Nola has grown into the melodic trap sound that listeners identify him with today.

Putting together the lyrical content which describes the tough background that he was raised in, with his natural vocal talent and range, Nola represents the sound and story of many young people who aren’t majorly represented from New Zealand through his music.

‘Mean It’ paints the picture of a ‘Hood-Romance’ story that Nola finds himself centre-stage in, describing the trials and tribulations of balancing a relationship with the difficult lifestyle he endures. With a catchy hook that links his story and emotions to the listener in a way that makes them want to sing-a-long, Nola’s first commercial single is one to be added to those driving playlists immediately.

Stream ‘Mean It’ by Nola, on all platforms, here. Follow Nola on Instagram @nola.official_

Australian-based kiwi rappers Morse Gang (Remorse (Te Āti Hau Nui A Pāpārangi) & Entyce (Ngāpuhi)) have today released their new upbeat single ‘Datsus’ along with a fun new video that sees the pair become superheroes.

Listen to ‘Datsus’ HERE

Watch the video HERE

Bringing the message of being unique and representing your own sound in a music industry that follows trends, Morse Gang definitely stands out from the crowd with ‘Datsus’ - a catchy, rhythmically on-point hip-hop track that hooks from the moment the keys start playing - then reels you in through a wealth of skilled rapping. Remorse & Entyce are two rappers who know their craft.

“We weren’t too sure if we were even going to release this song,” says Remorse. “Entyce had it sitting on his laptop for a couple of months with just the first verse and chorus recorded. He emailed it to me, and that’s when I recorded my verse, and the rest is history.”

The ‘Datsus’ video will hook you as much as the song does. Filmed in Perth by a local videographer LAHAI CREATIVE, with the support of NZOA funding, it tells the story of two superheroes saving the streets from crime.

“This was our first ever video shoot where we dressed up in costume and had to act,” says Remorse. “Entyce flew over from Brisbane, and we shot it in 2 days due to the tight covid-19 restrictions in Perth at the time. It was summer and around 35-38 degrees, so there were a lot of water breaks.” Also featured in the video are Remorse’s two young sons and Entyce’s two younger cousins. “It was fun to have family members involved.” You can check out ‘Datsus’ now!

Cammy and Will McClean join forces on cruisy summer jam ‘Band-Aid’

Summer vibes are established from the first beat of Cammy's new single 'Band-Aid', featuring Will McClean. The track combines a Motown-esque feel with horns, and cunning cadences, held down by a live groove.

Summer vibes are established from the first beat of Cammy's new single 'Band-Aid', featuring Will McClean. The track combines a Motown-esque feel with horns, and cunning cadences, held down by a live groove.

'Band-Aid’ depicts a story of a complicated romance. It's a feel-good but bittersweet track, and through Cammy's lens it's a reminder that every cloud has a silver lining, while Will McClean’s storytelling mixes up the flow.

Cammy says, “Me and Will are childhood mates, raised in the same hometown. We’ve both been coming up on this music grind together. It feels so full circle to finally share this one with the world.:"

“I was inspired by something Pharrell Williams said on a podcast. “Chords are co-ordinance.” This means chords take you places emotionally. In the final month of production, I changed the voicings of the chords in the wobbly synth to feel more sombre. This edit flipped the emotion that was evoked into a more saudade realm.”

With many more releases scheduled and an array of shows booked throughout Aotearoa, 2022 is looking like Cammy's best year yet.

His 2021 summer anthem ‘Okie Dokie’ has garnered over 130,000 streams on Spotify, and the smooth R&B waltz ‘Garden’ is featured on Apple Music’s A-List Pop playlist. His most recent release was the galactic dance-pop tune ‘U Threw Me’ in March 2022, which was added to Apple Music’s New in Pop playlist.

Cammy is a 23-year-old alternative pop artist born and raised in Te Whanganui a Tara Wellington, New Zealand.

Combining elements of R&B, pop, electronic and dance, Cammy’s ideas emerge from the bridge between reality and fantasy.

Citing The Beatles and Frank Ocean as his foremost musical influences, Cammy’s ambition is for each song to be cinematic; an experience for listeners that evokes emotion.

Cammy’s songs are brought to new heights at his live shows. Accompanied by his seven-piece band, pop, funk, and electronic flavours combine to create a groove-filled performance with a modern twist.
