HOME BREW ANNOUNCE 11TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF THEIR CLASSIC DEBUT DOUBLE ALBUM

“11 years gone by. it's weird looking back at it with hindsight. i think some of it has fermented better than other parts. but i can at least step back from it now and see it for what it was. it was some honest shit that we weren't trying to take too seriously. and that's what i like about it now. it was never too up itself. it was just the noises that came out of us at the time. a bunch of kids having fun. hard to hate on that.”

-        Tom Scott

RELEASING SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2023

AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW

www.homebrew.dog

Home Brew (11th Anniversary Edition) is a faithful reissue for a fanbase that has stayed loyal to the project since inception, for nearly two decades. The 10th Anniversary Edition 11th Anniversary Edition will be available on CD and - for the first time since the ultra-rare 2013 pressing - a 2xLP 180g deluxe gatefold Vinyl.

Both feature brand new & reimagined illustrations from Guy Brock - the artist behind the original iconic cover, and are remastered by the original mastering engineer Ben Lawson.

It’s been over a decade since the release of Home Brew, an uncompromising snapshot of honesty, self-reflection and disillusionment. With that honesty, Tom Scott, Haz Beats and Lui Gumaka created the clearest picture of the 2010s zeitgeist yet - somehow blending hip-hop with Trade Me, Pak ‘N’ Save, John Key and whatever drug “killed the dinosaurs”.

Rising to equal parts greatness and infamy, the double album split into two discs “Light” and “Dark”, has now become synonymous with hip-hop in Aotearoa. Its impact was followed by a long list of successful musical endeavours from the members - including the critically acclaimed and award winning Avantdale Bowling Club, Team Dynamite and @Peace - alongside fostering multiple artists under the YGB label.

Caesar Mafuta Releases Afrobeat Single + Music Video 'Aroha' - A Multilingual Afrobeat Gem with A Message Of Love And Unity

Brace yourself for a music and visual experience as Caesar Mafuta shares his highly anticipated Afrobeat single 'Aroha.' The single is a stunning mosaic of sound that pays homage to Māori culture and Māori; the original inheritors of Aotearoa, while igniting a spirit of unity for people and lands that share a similar colonial history.

As you sway to the steady melody, you'll find yourself entwined in a beautiful symphony of Te Reo Māori, Shona, and English.

As the echoes of 'Aroha' fill the air, this release is just a prelude to the stories Caesar Mafuta has yet to share. Following his 2023 debut singles 'Far Away' and 'No Wahala,' 'Aroha' paves the way for an exciting series of upcoming releases. Accompanied by a stunning music video directed by Gael Lanigan; inspired by medieval times, Lord of The Rings, and Narnia. While these visuals showcase the artist's adoration of cinema, the setting of the forest plays into something deeper. This setting is where tāngata whenua trace back the first human life and love; thus, it pays homage to Māori culture which the artist has beautifully interwoven into the single, artwork, and music video.

Reflecting on his single artwork, Caesar Mafuta shares, "My attire symbolises the pride I feel in being a Zimbabwean-New Zealander. The armour represents the barriers I faced to find my myself, and the sword signifies my triumph over adversity."

Beyond the afrobeat and visuals, 'Aroha' carries a profound message of cultural preservation and inner resilience. Moved by the artist's experiences migrating and growing up in New Zealand, Caesar Mafuta envisions 'Aroha' as a bridge, connecting Te Reo Māori, Shona, and Afrobeat, all bearing legacies that deserve recognition.

'Aroha' is an embodiment of cultural fusion and artistic expression. It's a reminder that amidst the kaleidoscope of life, music remains a universal language that can unite us all.

From Tiktok sensation to rising artist Vana is again with the release ofready to give the people what they want again her highly anticipated second single, "SPIT!" Following the incredible success of her last single "PRETTY BOY!", which garnered over 100,000 views within its first month.

"SPIT!" stands as a bold testament to Vana's unique artistic vision and her unrelenting commitment to exploring complex themes through her music. This dark trap anthem goes beyond the surface to delve deep into the intricacies of mental health, drawing a clever parallel between our psychological state and teeth. The song metaphorically presents teeth as a representation of one's mental well-being, juxtaposing the journey of mood disorders against the physical state of teeth, which endure both highs and lows.

Vana's "SPIT!" captures the turbulent rollercoaster of emotions that come with mood disorders, encapsulating the intense highs and crushing lows that characterize the human experience. The track's thought-provoking lyrics provide listeners with an opportunity to reflect on their own mental well-being, sparking conversations about an often-overlooked topic.

The production of "SPIT!" is a masterful blend of sonic elements that contribute to its manic atmosphere. With crushing 808s that reverberate through the track and disorienting electric guitar arpeggios, the song's production perfectly complements its themes. "SPIT!" is simultaneously energetic, twisted, and undeniably catchy, showcasing Vana's ability to create music that resonates on both an emotional and visceral level.

This will be the second single from Vana's debut EP set to release on the 13th of October (Friday the 13th) keeping in theme of her love for the horror genre.

Vana's "SPIT!" will be available on all major streaming platforms 25th August 2023.

Wellington’s TOI return with uplifting new single, ‘We Got This’

Wellington seven-piece TOI are back with the second single off their upcoming new full-length album, today unveiling the feelgood track ‘We Got This’.

Wellington seven-piece TOI are back with the second single off their upcoming new full-length album, today unveiling the feelgood track ‘We Got This’.

Listen to ‘We Got ThisHERE

Spacious guitars, soulful hooks, a killer bass line and laid back vocals are central to ‘We Got This’; with TOI’s signature style of R&B-meets-funk-meets-soul on full display. Darker undertones emerge particularly within the bridge, before emerging back out into the track’s feel-good, hopeful vibe; sonically mirroring the lyrical message throughout the song.

“‘We Got This’ is about keeping your head up and never losing hope in yourself,” explains TOI. “It’s a message of resilience, self-belief, and the importance of staying true to oneself despite challenges and external pressures.”

“We wrote this tune right in the heat of covid lockdowns and were sharing a sort of distorted uneasy feeling of the current reality and change of the social climate. Covid had a heavy effect on everyone's lives and we felt this hardship. But we also felt that it wouldn’t last, and that we needed to keep our heads up and not lose our sense of self and hope.”

With Ben O’Leary on production, Neil MacLeod on mixing, Benny Tones on mastering and the whole TOI whānau offering invaluable support, TOI says the single came together with a “supportive community around us, helping us foster the track’s message and expression.”

“We go through hard times too, but are lucky to have a medium like music to express ourselves,” reflects TOI. “We want to give a big shout out to our crew that helped us to bring this tune and message to fruition - we couldn’t do this without you all!”

We Got This’ is the second single to be released off TOI’s upcoming album, following the soulful track ‘Essence’ which received widespread radio support across Aotearoa, including ZM, The Edge, Sun FM and more. The new music comes after TOI’s 2022 single ‘Way That We Feel’ featuring Zoe Moon and their 2021 self-titled EP, which saw them exploring indie-pop landscapes with tracks such as ‘I Want You’, ‘Tangerine’ and ‘Thinking Too Much’. The EP amassed more than three million streams on Spotify alone and saw the band embark on a headline New Zealand tour.

With a hard-earned reputation as one of the tightest bands around, TOI has traveled the breadth and width of the country performing their own headlining shows; playing killer sets at festivals and sharing stages with heavyweights such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ocean Alley, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Katchafire, L.A.B. and Tash Sultana.

We Got This’ gives an exciting preview of the upcoming album, which is being made with support from NZ On Air. Keep your eyes peeled and get ready; today’s release is “just the start of what we think is an exciting and diverse collection of music to come”.

Listen to the original version of ‘Girls!’ HERE

BABYNYMPH - best known for her work with SOPHIE and Chase Icon - takes the original song, which has a driving drum beat and grunge-coded guitar riffs (all played live in the studio) and sprinkles it with dreamy synths and an addictive bassline, creating a euphoric, low-key hyper-pop club anthem.

Theia wrote ‘Girls!’ - a sweet love song for girls who love girls - after being inspired by some of the most iconic names in music. “I’d been listening to a lot of my favourite 90s women when I wrote Girls! - artists like Sinead O’Connor, The Cranberries and Alanis Morissette, says Theia.

Theia is currently based in LA where she’s recently performed at LA Pride and a string of club shows. She has also been touring her reo Māori side project TE KAAHU in Canada.

Expect new music from Theia in the coming months. She’s also headlining the Sum of Us Festival in California in September, before returning home to New Zealand - watch this space for an exciting announcement soon.
