CHRISTCHURCH ARTIST PHOEBE VIC ANNOUNCES SELF-DEPRECATING DISS-TRACK
Hot off her appearance at GO Live Festival in July and preparing for her summer circuit debut at Nostalgia Festival early next year, Phoebe Vic releases Wasn’t That Deep - a fierce and firmly tongue-in-cheek, self deprecating diss-track about an online dating app match gone sour.
“I think this is a common experience for a lot of people in this modern dating game,” says Vic. “I had built up this relationship so much over such a short period of time that when it turned out that this person wasn’t that into me, I was so devastated! It was very f***ing embarrassing and I was extremely annoyed that I cared so much!”
Wasn’t That Deep was created alongside APRA Silver Scroll nominee and producer, Emily C. Browning, with mix and master completed by Stephen Marr.
“Phoebe came into the session wanting to make something guttural and pulsating, like some kind of pounding headache in song form.” Emily explains. “I think we achieved that pretty well with some freaky synths and samples. There’s also an element of silliness that I really enjoyed playing with.”
Drawing on various musical references and genres, ‘Wasn’t That Deep’ ducks in and out of a rolling trap-hat rhythm. It’s punctuated with horse whinnies and dog barks, before shifting abruptly into “rose tinted glasses” romanticism - complete with bird tweets and arpeggiated synth strings.
“When Emily and I were making the song, I wanted the music production to feel really in your face and intense and to go in all these different directions - which is what your emotions are like when you are having these repeated attempts and failures of connection.” Vic says.
“The chorus chant “Wasn’t That Deep!” is like a mantra to myself - I should just “get over it!” As if it is ever that easy!”
Wasn’t That Deep is released alongside a music video, shot on a 2005 digital camera in the middle of the night, in Emily’s backyard.

CAITLIN's EP Legacy Out Now
This EP showcases Caitlin’s signature blend of indie-folk and alt-pop, delving deep into personal and reflective themes
Ōtautahi-based singer-songwriter Caitlin Bradley (CAITLIN) is set to release her highly anticipated EP Legacy on November 8th, 2024. This EP showcases Caitlin’s signature blend of indie-folk and alt-pop, delving deep into personal and reflective themes. Featuring three acclaimed singles—"Light Leak”, "What You Love”, and “Legacy” — alongside a brand new track, “Attention”. Legacy captures Caitlin’s vulnerability, artistic growth, and bold storytelling.
Legacy
The EP’s title track, "Legacy," dives into the struggles faced by artists when pursuing their dreams. Described as “a deeply personal track that explores the fear of never leaving a mark”, Caitlin examines the emotional cost of chasing a creative career. Produced alongside Emily C. Browning, the song’s lush production evokes the feeling of "floating on your back in deep water" with layers of guitars and rich vocals that capture the intensity of her inner turmoil. It’s a raw and honest reflection on ambition, failure, and hope.
Light Leak
Fan-favourite “Light Leak" embraces the theme of vulnerability and the bittersweet process of letting go. As Caitlin explains, “I’m telling a story of letting go of a sweet future you imagined and held dearly, accepting your fate, and walking away from it with a bittersweet taste.” Produced by Will McGillivray, the indie-folk track features intimate vocals and a soundscape that alludes to the styles of Ethan Gruska and Bon Iver with rich, acoustic textures. “Light Leak” highlights Caitlin’s ability to craft deeply emotional and delicate melodies.
What You Love
"What You Love" explores the tension between capitalism and kaitiakitanga, addressing feelings of being a young person in the corporate world. Caitlin delivers her meditations with a stunning melody, haunting backing vocals, a driving acoustic sound, and strong lyrical imagery. The song is a reflection of her passion for the environment and the challenges of confronting corporate greed. The track beautifully connects with traditional Māori values, where people are seen as protectors and part of the land rather than its owners.
Attention
The EP also introduces "Attention," a new song that continues Caitlin’s introspective journey, this time exploring the challenges of social media addiction and the struggle of being constantly tied to technology. The song delves into the way companies and individuals fight for your attention through a screen, leaving you feeling like all your time is soaked up. With its reflective lyrics and immersive dark sound, "Attention" adds another layer of emotional depth to Legacy, resonating with anyone who has felt overwhelmed by the demands of the digital world.
Caitlin’s Legacy is an immersive and heartfelt exploration of the ups and downs of artistic pursuit, self-reflection, and environmental awareness. With its richly layered soundscapes and poignant lyrics, the EP invites listeners into a deeply personal world while showcasing Caitlin’s growth as an artist.
Legacy will be available on all streaming platforms starting November 8th, 2024.

Yurt Party is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, "Fela," originally inspired by the Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, and transmogrified by the band’s signature mischief, flair and dub.
Yurt Party is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, "Fela," originally inspired by the Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, and transmogrified by the band’s signature mischief, flair and dub. Their latest tune comes after nationwide release tours and a series of explosive performances at festivals across New Zealand, including Cuba Dupa, Tora Bombora, and Twisted Frequency.
Instrumentally, "Fela" features the unmistakable sound of a Farfisa organ drenched in dubbed-out tape delay. The tape delay unit used was found on a side quest during their recent tour in Auckland. “We’re loving the sound and soul of this old tape machine,” says the band, “but the actual tape isn’t made anymore! So when it breaks, out comes the sellotape!”
Known for their energetic live shows and genre-blending sound, Yurt Party continue to push musical boundaries, blending traditional inspirations with modern twists and playful experimentation. The release is a precursor to a festival filled summer and an album release next year.
Available now on all major streaming platforms, "Fela" is a must-listen for fans of off-the-grid dance music and those who appreciate music that defies convention.
Mojo Crow releases new EP “Imposter”
Mojo Crow, known for their powerful live shows and eclectic blend of rock, alt-country, blues and reggae is releasing their latest EP Imposter today
Mojo Crow, known for their powerful live shows and eclectic blend of rock, alt-country, blues and reggae is releasing their latest EP Imposter on November 8, 2024 —a raw, high-energy return to their rock roots that delves into themes of identity, inspiration, and the sometimes-dark forces that inevitably shape us.
The five-track EP features gritty guitar riffs, raw vocal intensity, and driving rhythms that pull no punches. The title track, Imposter, which debuted as a single in August is already making waves as an anthem of courage and resilience. “This album is about shedding the masks we wear and facing down the shadows within.”
Track Highlights
1. Imposter – A fierce, upbeat rock anthem taunting imposter syndrome that verges on punk, reminiscent of The Strokes or The Hives.
2. Rain Down – A fast-paced rhythmic interplay between guitars, bass and drums launches into space amongst playful lead guitar lines that echo retro sci-fi video games, and a call for inspiration from the heavens.
3. Passenger – A haunting ride down dark desert highways that channels the thrill and danger of raw V8 muscle and a journey with an inescapable, powerful alter ego.
4. In My Blood – Retro blues rock with a wave to The Doors on keys, eerie harmonies and a roaring blues rock guitar solo.
5. Lady Luck – Genre-fusing reggae guitars with melodic bass lines that blend into an anthemic rock chorus that sings of escape, luck and chance.
About the band
Mojo Crow is an Auckland based band hatched by brothers Chris and Nick Jones. Mojo Crow’s high-energy and crowd-stomping live shows blend an eclectic mix of rock, alt-country, blues, and reggae genres. Their previous single "West Coast" is a reggae-inspired track released about surfing on Auckland's west coast beaches that closely followed the release of "The Badlands", an album weaving themes of old western films, outlaws, and gold mining with their unique alt-country/blues/rock sound.

Liberty is ready to inspire audiences everywhere. From her honest songwriting to her captivating stage presence, Liberty demonstrates a rare authenticity that resonates with her growing fanbase. Her relatable lyrics, such as “I wanna get drunk and I wanna kiss a guy,” embody the raw emotions and struggles of youth, creating a genuine connection with listeners. Liberty states, “I was capturing exactly how I felt. I always thought I would change that line, but nothing else resonated with my feelings.”
With an impressive social media following of over 300K followers and 7M likes across Instagram and TikTok. Her success on these platforms showcases her ability to engage and inspire, drawing in fans with each performance and lyric shared. Liberty has already made waves in the Hawkes Bay music scene, performing at local wineries and major events like Outfield Festival 2023 and 2024.
After graduating from Napier Girls’ High School in 2023, Liberty dedicated 2024 to living at home, saving money, and wholeheartedly pursuing her music career. Singing from a young age and writing since 13, she thrived in high school competitions like Rockquest and Play It Strange, nurturing her passion for performance and songwriting.
Despite considering ‘I Wanna’ her debut single, Liberty does have two songs out through Play It Strange– Meet Me In Rome and Echo. Both tracks seeing a significant rise in streams from Liberty talking about them during her Tiktok lives. Liberty states “They feel to me to be in a different direction to where I am wanting to go, very high school me, I mentioned them on my live hoping to get one of them up to 5000 streams as a component of the NZ On Air funding, Meet Me In Rome now has 68,000 streams which to me is pretty crazy considering my lack of promotion, it makes me so excited to see how people receive ‘I Wanna’ - a track that I am truly proud of”
Liberty’s social media presence is a powerful asset. In just 18 months, she grew her TikTok following from 2K to 249K, alongside gaining 97K Instagram followers this year alone.
Liberty’s success with social media Her success on social media and her creative lyrics captured the attention of B-Unique Records, who invited her to their Los Angeles studios to work with their US based writers. Liberty referred to this experience as “inspiring and eye-opening”. Within a few months of coming home from that trip, Liberty wrote ‘I Wanna’ in her home studio. She made a demo to send to her team which ultimately is the production on the final track. Liberty said she was only ever “putting her ideas down” when initially producing the track, even playing the slide guitar part with the glass of water she was drinking out of, however, she decided that the imperfect “bedroom pop vibes” really gave the song its sound and a point of difference.
‘I Wanna’ expresses feelings of stress, anxiety, and isolation, capturing the universal desire to escape for one unforgettable night. Liberty explains, “The song came really naturally to me and it was one of those things that just came to life in my head as I was writing, I immediately had a vision for the production of the song, wanting it to sonically represent everything that ‘I Wanna’ do, hence the 4 on the floor dance like kick and the signature pop side-chained choppy backing vocals”
