NZ MUSIC COMMISSION ANNOUNCES INDUSTRY INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME FOR 2019

Following on from the successful pilot of the inaugural Industry Internship Programme in 2018, the New Zealand Music Commission is very pleased to announce the continuation of the Programme in 2019.

The Music Commission was delighted with the results of this years Programme and looks forward to implementing the Industry Internship Programme again in 2019. 

Feedback from both the Interns and Host Organisations was overwhelmingly positive. As a result of the Programme four Interns were offered either a full-time or part-time role with their Host Organisations and two Interns were contracted on a casual basis to their Hosts.

The Industry Internship Programme Hosts for 2018 were rights organisation APRA AMCOS, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, New Zealand music website AudioCulture, Big Pop Studios, digital distributor DRM NZ, Flying Nun Records, music supervision and consulting business Mind Your Music, online and print magazine NZ Musician, Roundhead Studios, promotions and marketing company The Label, recording studio and music business The Sitting Room & Lyttleton Records, and Palmerston North based rehearsal studios, recording facilities, and live performance venue The Stomach.

The Programme seeks to partner twelve Interns with NZ music businesses and organisations to develop the skills, knowledge and networks for the Interns, and help kick-start their careers in the music sector.  Host music organisations benefit from the additional resource and low risk development of potential employees, alongside the fresh thinking that Interns bring.

All participating Interns from the pilot Programme commented that their experiences were very valuable for their music industry education and connections, putting them in a good position for future employment within the NZ music industry.

Internships are available nationwide where it is possible to match a potential Intern with an appropriate Host music business or organisation.  

The Internships will run either part-time over a 16-week period or full-time over a 10-week period. All Interns will be paid for their internships (in accordance with living wage recommendations) and the Host organisations will be expected to make a modest contribution towards the Intern’s wages.

The New Zealand Music Commission will be inviting potential Host music companies or organisations to apply from Monday 5 November 2018, closing three weeks later at 5.00pm on 3 December 2018.

The Host application form and Frequently Asked Questions document will be available on the NZ Music Commission website from Monday 5 November.

Intern applications will open Monday 10 December 2018, closing six weeks later at 5.00pm on Tuesday 29 January 2019.
