Album #10 marks the extraordinary finale of Troy Kingi’s ambitious 10|10|10 project – ten albums, across ten genres, over ten years.
A lifelong film fan, Troy has written treatments for 12 imaginary James Bond films, imagined across different eras of the franchise, and composed an original theme song for each.
This final chapter was recorded at Abbey Road Studio 2 and Te Ngākau Recording Studios, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra’s new purpose-built scoring facility within the soon-to-be-reopened Wellington Town Hall.
The songs are brought to life through sweeping orchestral arrangements by Stephen Gallagher and David Long, recorded by the NZSO, with celebrated orchestrator and conductor Hamish McKeich. Creating an album that feels cinematic in scale, deeply rooted in storytelling and unmistakably Troy.
The idea for this project has been quietly stirring within Troy since the beginning of the 10|10|10. As he approaches the end of this remarkable decade-long journey, he finds himself reflecting on what has passed, contemplating what comes next, and indulging in a deep nostalgia for the music that has shaped him.
Nostalgia has been a recurring thread throughout the 10|10|10 project, and on this final album it comes sharply into focus. Troy draws inspiration from songs and sounds of the past, being influenced by such classics such as “You Only Live Twice,” “The Windmills of Your Mind” and “Me and Mrs. Jones” .
The result is both a celebration and a reflection on Troy’s own creative journey – an album about memory, imagination, reinvention and the passage of time.
