Christchurch Indie Rock duo The Response release new single ‘Keep Calm And Carry On’
Still riding the momentum of their recent run of success, The Response return with their latest single “Keep Calm and Carry On.” The track follows “Clear As Crystal,” which has just landed at #2 on the Hot 20 Aotearoa Singles chart, adding to a growing run of chart and radio success for the Christchurch duo. Their breakout single “Where Do You Run To?” spent nine consecutive weeks as the #1 rock song on New Zealand radio charts, while follow-up “Hollow Hour” continues to make its mark on the charts and across New Zealand radio.
“Keep Calm and Carry On” sees The Response lean into a darker, bluesier edge, with gritty guitars, a locked-in groove and a swagger that sits somewhere between the raw pull of The Black Keys and the cool, understated drive of Arctic Monkeys. The track builds around a deceptively calm exterior, gradually revealing a sense of tension and unease underneath.
Lyrically, the song explores the feeling of knowing something has gone wrong while stubbornly pushing forward regardless. The familiar phrase “keep calm and carry on” becomes less reassuring and more ironic, as the narrator tries to maintain control while everything around them begins to unravel. “Won’t admit you’ve lost control / you’re the only one at fault” captures that tension head-on, while the chorus lands with the repeated refrain: “Keep calm and carry on / ignore your observations.”
Equal parts swaggering rock groove and simmering anxiety, “Keep Calm and Carry On” finds The Response continuing to sharpen their sound while building on an already impressive run of momentum.
Keep Calm and Carry On is available on all major streaming platforms on the 28th of October. Fans can follow The Response on social media for updates on upcoming releases and live shows.
Catch them in Auckland and Christchurch ahead of their appearance at Electric Avenue over summer.
