Uplifting and empowering, the rap heavy track is the first in this style by The Human Kind and is a signal of what is still to come this year from the group.
“This song is about believing in and fulfilling one’s destiny and the inspiration was taken from Deutronomy 31:6 in the Bible,” says Jason Slade, the lead vocalist for the song.
The track was written as a group including Frank Marinthe, Chrissy Diamond, Jason Slade, Mitch French, Debbie-Toko Stevens. The collective challenged themselves by delivering the song in a style they hadn’t done before, rap.
“I’m more open now to different ways of expression. Messages of hope and encouragement are a constant in my songwriting, but delivering in different musical forms/genres…is exciting and somewhat scary but also heaps of fun,” says Jason Slade who wrote the lyrics for the song.
Accompanying the single is the minimalist style video which shows all members of the band against a black backdrop, making the empowering lyrics the main focus.

The Human Kind have had a massive year so far with a string of successful shows which raised money for the Mental Health Foundation as well as solid releases throughout the year including Tell Me How and waiata Mā Te Wai with with an exciting remix by Tiki Taane and Laughton Kora to be released later this year."
Water and Fire follows on from The Human Kind’s most recent single, Mā Te Wai, which has become a favourite across the Student Radio Network and a top 10 Alt airplay single.

Sonically ‘I Need Somebody’ will transport you to some of cinema’s greatest love stories and their iconic scenes. Matt says that his soundtrack-ready song is “about wanting to do amazing things for someone but can’t in real life, so I’ve created my own Superhero story.”
Created with the help of NZOA New Music Pasifika funding, it follows on from his explosive debut single ‘Let’s Dance’ and was entirely performed/recorded and produced by the artist himself, with the exception of Moiho Leaupepe on lead guitar, Nate Peseta on vocals and mixing by Scott Seabright.
Accompanying the single are his very own superhero visuals by animator Articulate aka Uelese Vavae.
Self-described as a ‘jukebox of Soul, Gospel, Funk, R&B, Reggae & Pop’ Matt hails from Tāmaki Makaurau’s Mount Roskill, where he grew up being surrounded by music through church, family and friends. Musical influence also came from the Underground Industry, fellow Aotearoa musicians, and artists such as John Mayer and Michael Jackson. He’s been on the scene for 10 years, performing as lead singer/guitarist for Auckland venue Sweat Shop’s Friday night band The Beat Council, and playing guitar for some of Aotearoa’s top acts. Now, he’s stepping further into the spotlight as a solo artist. With two incredible singles released and much more to come from this up-and-comer - Matt Nanai is a name to remember!

Ainslie says 'I was sick of playing covers, for years I worked for others, singing their songs, now it's my turn, I'm making my dream a reality and I'm gonna play my songs!'
Unbelievably talented, the resilient singer released an album and had a baby in the same year, Ainslie said 'what kind of crazy woman would do that to herself .. yeah.. me.. I'm that crazy woman'.. it makes for good inspiration.. and the lack of sleep helps not to suffer fools.. so, I suppose I win'..
Ainslie's career has seen her sing from ballrooms to warzones. She makes it look easy with her crowd, and can read them like a book, her quick wit and huge vocal range with blow your mind. Ainslie's known for talking to her audience sometimes asking if they have a song request.. she says 'Sometimes asking for requests can bite you in the butt.. but because I know so many songs, and I like all musical genres.. I'm pretty good at that game'.
After two postponed attempts at hitting the road (thanks covid), Ainslie says 'I've been waiting so long to play 'Betty' to a live audience on the release tour with my band.. I have merch to sell.. t-shirt's, CD's, face masks, even pink vinyl for this release.. I need to get rid of them.. the boxes are taking up too much space at home'..
The Betty Tour will take you on a journey, Ainslie's most personal to date. 'Betty is named after my Nan, and I know she's with me on this one'.

Gisborne artist Yung Maac has released his highly anticipated single ‘ON ME’, after taking a year and half hiatus from dropping music. Having recently joined 24K Media as their first signed artist, Yung Maac delivers his autotuned melodic flow over a synth lead melodic trap beat by Grammy Award Winning producer, Sky Beats.
‘On Me’ re-introduces Yung Maac to listeners, and is accompanied by stormy visuals conceptualised by 24KMedia CEO and Director, Lleyton Watts, that perfectly brings to life the song and induces viewers bringing them into Yung Maac’s world. Yung Maac’s layered harmonies mixed in with Sky Beats’ guitar lead and moody synth pads, perfectly combine together to give the audience a listening experience that makes them wanting more.
“I was listening to a beat pack in the studio and when I heard this beat by SkyBeats, the melody for the hook immediately came into my head, so I just laid it down and went from there. I think the vibe in the studio that night was just right, we were writing and recording like 3 other songs so my creativity was just flowing.” - Yung Maac on recording ‘On Me’.
While 24KMedia has established themselves as one of New Zealand’s leading music video producers in recent times, debuting Yung Maac under their organisation with ‘On Me’ expands their reach within the New Zealand music scene.
“Ever since Maac linked in with us, we’ve been really looking forward to putting out our first video with him. On Me is a perfect re-introduction to him as an artist in our team.” - 24KMedia CEO Lleyton Watts, on bringing Yung Maac into 24K.
In releasing ‘On Me’, Yung Maac has laid the foundation to what audiences can expect from him for the rest of this year. With the long awaited EP ‘4010’ set to be released later this year, Yung Maac has listeners expectant to what he has in store for them.
