Like A Tie is the third single from the incredible Levi Lights On Project and was released on 14 November 2019.
Produced by the extremely talented Mitch French of Black Dog Recording Studio, Like A Tie is another thought provoking track which spans multiple genres and will have very broad appeal. Opening with a string tone so soft you could sleep on it, Like A Tie starts you off gently with subtle urban, indie pop flavours and a catchy melody to compliment the arrangement. Come the chorus the energy rises and pulls you right in to its smooth ambiance.
From the gentle, consoling notes of the intro to the gravelly tones of the chorus, Levi’s exquisite vocal brings wonderful light and shade to this track. An uncommon blend of instruments including a sultry saxophone and the sonorous elegance of the cello, make for a very unique sound. The lyrics speak of escaping the nine-to-five grind and freeing ourselves of the day to day chains which bind so many of us.
Levi said of the track, “I've been through education; and I've been through the career which that education led me to. I left it all behind with dissatisfaction and wrote this song”.
Levi truly is a gifted and inspirational songwriter and he and his band, the Lights On Project, are building quite a following in the Auckland region. Levi has also recently taken his solo show to Darwin where he has collected a whole new group of very keen followers. Accompanying Levi in his full 5-piece line up are Jason Slade on guitar/bass, Tim Shacklock on cello, Andrew Miller on saxophone and Igor Shnayderman on cajon/percussion. These five individually talented musicians come together to deliver songs which touch the soul and unpick the very nature of human existence.
